Mike Williams misses Jets practice after Aaron Rodgers criticism

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned — or Aaron Rodgers.

The Jets lost to the Bills on "Monday Night Football," in Week 6. You can point many fingers of blame around the team, but Rodgers pointed his squarely at Williams. He tried to target the wide receiver on a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter.

According to Rodgers, Williams not only slipped and fell on his route but ran the wrong one. The veteran quarterback called out Williams in his post-game press conference , then doubled down again when he was on Tuesday's episode of the Pat McAfee Show.

The Jets are turning their attention to a Week 7 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers for 'Sunday Night Football.' Rodgers has a new weapon in Davante Adams , but the Jets were still down a receiver as practice opened up on Wednesday.

Here's what you need to know about Williams missing Wednesday's Jets practice.

    Mike Williams mysteriously misses practice

Despite Adams being the newest to the team, he was at practice on Wednesday. Since New York played on Monday, they just had a team walkthrough on Wednesday. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich didn't mention anything about the team practice or big-name players not being there.

New York's injury report came out later in the afternoon, and many were surprised to find out that Williams was not at practice.

He was cited as missing practice due to personal reasons. It's worth noting that after Adams was acquired to reunite him with Rodgers, Williams moved down the depth chart to the WR4 role. The Jets were reportedly looking to trade the wide receiver, especially since he was only on a one-year deal. Williams could have other things going on that resulted in the personal day tag, but it seems too coincidental for it not to be related to his subsequent benching and trade talks.

Why is Aaron Rodgers mad at Mike Williams?

Williams has played in all six games this season but has only brought in 10 of his 17 targets for 145 yards. He has yet to score for the Jets.

In Week 6, the Jets trailed the Bills by three with 3:43 left in the game. They started at their own 30, but the final play of the drive came right before the two-minute warning. It was third-and-16 on the Jets' 40, and Rodgers tried to hit Williams deep down the right side of the field. Williams fell, and the ball got intercepted by a Buffalo defender. The quarterback blamed Williams for running the wrong route, but the only shot that Williams had at that ball was because he fell from trying to slow down.

Either way, Rodgers is not blaming himself for the loss. Instead, he has blamed Williams twice now. The Jets have brought in Rodgers' old teammate, and Williams is missing practice amid trade talks.
