Pat Surtain officially out for Denver Broncos in Week 7

    By Travis Wakeman,

The Denver Broncos will have to go into their game against the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football without their best player, as most expected. Because of the concussion he received on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, Pat Surtain II could not clear protocol with such a short window to do it in.

Surtain will miss the first game of his professional career as a result. However, the Broncos have drawn a Saints team that is dealing with more serious injury issues.

The Saints released their final injury report on Wednesday and it showed that the Saints will be without several of their top players.

New Orleans Saints Week 7 injury report

    Player Position Injury Game Status
    Derek Carr QB Oblique Doubtful
    Chris Olave WR Concussion Out
    Rashid Shaheed WR Knee Out
    Cesar Ruiz OL Knee Out
    Pete Werner LB Hamstring Out
    Taysom Hill TE Rib Doubtful
    Khalen Saunders DT Back Questionable
    Lucas Patrick OL Chest Questionable

The Broncos will be without their top cornerback, but the Saints will be missing their starting quarterback and their top two wide receivers. The loss of Taysom Hill impacts the offense negatively too.

That will help the Broncos' secondary tremendously, as it will likely be Levi Wallace who is called upon to step up in Surtain's absence.

Spencer Rattler will make his second career start and he will have two rookies as his top targets in the passing game, Bub Means and Mason Tipton.

For the Broncos, things still look good on the injury front despite the loss of Surtain, who will most likely return in Week 8. Alex Palczewski, still dealing with an ankle injury, is the only other player who has been ruled out for this game.

Mike McGlinchey, Baron Browning and Damarri Mathis are each listed as questionable for this game. All three players are ready to return from injured reserve and make an impact.
