Detroit Lions named potential trade partner for All-Pro edge rusher

After losing star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson for the rest of the 2024 season, the Detroit Lions ' pass-rush is in big trouble. Not only have the Lions lost Hutchinson, they lost their No. 2 edge rusher, Marcus Davenport, also.

Though the trade deadline is rapidly approaching and there will be edge rushers available, finding a player who can even approach what Hutchinson can do on a football field will be extremely difficult.

Even if a top edge rusher becomes available, which isn't guaranteed, the price is going to be astronomically high, and there will be a lot of competition for that player's services.

One player who falls into that category is Las Vegas Raiders star edge rusher Maxx Crosby, who NBC Los Angeles' Sanjesh Singh believes could land in Detroit.

This one is a no-brainer. The Lions should be in the market for a marquee edge rusher with Aidan Hutchinson likely out for the season due to a b r oken tibia . Though head coach Dan Campbell doesn't want to rule out Hutchinson's possible return this season, there's no guarantee it will happen and speculating won't solve any issues. Crosby would retain the Lions' status at legitimate NFC contenders while bolstering them further once Hutchinson is healthy.

It goes without saying that if Crosby were to become available, the Lions should absolutely be all in on him. He is one of the few players on this planet who can adequately replace Hutchinson.

The problem, of course, is that there is no indication Crosby wants to be traded. Last we heard from him, Crosby wasn't going anywhere and has no desire to be traded, unlike a certain other former teammate.

"Come on bro, you know where I want to be," Crosby said amid speculation that he may want out of Las Vegas. "You think I want to be anywhere else? No. I got this s--- tatted on my body. I don't want to go anywhere."

Adding to that, Raiders owner Mark Davis made it abundantly clear that he has no intention of trading the two-time first-team All-Pro.

"Oh no, I want to trade Maxx today," Davis joked . "It's unfortunate today, but there's so much outside chatter that is not true. It's not coming from any sources. It's not coming from anything... It's just not happening."

Sorry, Lions fans, but bringing the Eastern Michigan product home just isn't in the cards right now.
