The Pittsburgh Steelers are faced with a starting quarterback decision between Justin Fields and Russell Wilson once again ahead of their Week 7 game against the New York Jets.

Wilson has been fully healthy since last week and is now off the injury report entirely this week. However, the Steelers are also 4-2 with Fields under center.

Head coach Mike Tomlin has left the door open for either one to start on Sunday, and both saw first-team reps at practice on Wednesday. But all signs are pointing toward Wilson getting the nod over Fields.

When asked about the pending decision, Fields said he's preparing to start, as he always does. However, when asked if he would be frustrated if Wilson starts after what he's done this year, Fields admitted he doesn't think he's been good enough.

"I don't think I played good enough, if I'm being real with you," Fields said, per ESPN's Brooke Pryor . "If I'm being real with myself, I think if I did play well enough, I don't think there would be any sort of who should be playing, who should not."

You have to appreciate Fields' honesty, even though he isn't helping his own case. It goes without saying that Fields has done enough to help the Steelers win, but he has not played at a high enough level to keep Wilson from getting a shot.

And that's basically what Tomlin said recently. He did praise Fields, but also noted that things could be better — and he's right.

"Justin has been really good, and we've been really good at times, but not to be confused with great," Tomlin said . "This is a competitive league. We're trying to position ourselves to be that team, and we got to play with talent with which we haven't had an opportunity to play. So we're going to potentially explore those things."

The fact of the matter is, the Steelers should turn to the guy they named the starter before the season began to see if he can produce better results than what the offense has put out there under Fields.

If Wilson fails spectacularly, which is certainly possible, Pittsburgh can always go back to Fields.
