Mets star projected to get $46 million after bounce-back season

The New York Mets have shocked the baseball world this year.

New York was well below .500 early on, and it scratched and clawed its way to the playoffs seemingly one year ahead of schedule. The Mets spent last offseason strategically adding to the organization by targeting veterans in line for bounce-back seasons on cheap deals.

One player the Mets signed early on is former New York Yankees All-Star Luis Severino. He earned two All-Star nods as a member of the Yankees but struggled in 2023, thanks in large part to injuries.

He responded in a major way after landing a short-term deal with the Mets. Severino logged a 3.91 ERA in 31 starts in the regular season and is expected to cash in this winter. He will be a free agent once again and is projected to get a three-year deal worth roughly $46 million by Spotrac.

It would make sense for the Mets to offer him a deal of that nature. New York has more money to spend than anyone else. The Mets are going to be looking for a superstar -- like Yankees outfielder Juan Soto -- but need to make sure the rotation is ready to go for 2025 as well.

Bringing Severino back on a $46 million deal seems to be very fair for both sides. New York will have competition for his services, though, if it wants to bring him back. He showed that he still has a lot in the tank and is just 30 years old. He is worth watching once free agency kicks off.
