Red Sox owner looking to acquire NBA expansion team in Las Vegas

Boston Red Sox majority owner John Henry and the Fenway Sports Group are shifting their focus from buying the Boston Celtics to purchasing the expansion team that forms in Las Vegas, per the Liverpool Echo . NBA superstar LeBron James would lead the team when he retires.

This is potentially upsetting for Red Sox fans, as the ownership promised that their portfolio was full, according to reporter Gabrielle Starr . Now the Red Sox will have to contend with another team for more money in their budget.

Sox fans were also promised by management that the team would take risks and be aggressive this offseason , and this news might affect that, as they will have to cough up tens of millions to be competitive next season.

However, it may not affect anything. The ownership may actually keep to their word, at least for this season. In the long run, it would not be surprising if FSG did another stint of mediocrity like they’ve done for five of the last six seasons.
