ex-Seahawks star Russell Wilson reveals NFL's worst-kept secret for Week 7

Former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is finally going to begin the third act of his NFL career this coming Sunday. Thus far Wilson has sat out every game for the Pittsburgh Steelers this season as he recovered from a thigh injury. Now active, there was rampant speculation - even expectation coming into this week that Wilson would get into the starting lineup.

Well, we can stop the speculation game, because Wilson just let the cat out of the bag. Speaking in an interview with Steelers beat reporters, Wilson said that this will be his first game of the year, per Mike DeFabo at The Athletic.

Russell Wilson reveals he will start for Steelers

The decision by head coach Mike Tomlin comes as something of a surprise, considering that Justin Fields had been playing relatively well . In six games Fields went 4-2 as Pittsburgh's starter, totaling 10 touchdowns from scrimmage and just one interception.

While Fields' game is admittedly somewhat limited as a passer, he still has a far higher ceiling than what we've seen from Wilson the last couple of years with the Denver Broncos. Wilson went 104-53-1 as the Seahawks' franchise quarterback, but he's gone just 11-19 since. Perhaps Russ will find some of his old Seattle magic with a change of scenery.

It won't be easy out of the gate, though. Wilson's first start for the Steelers will come against a New York Jets defense that is allowing the second-fewest passing yards per game in the NFL this year.
