Mets projected $46 million star could fit for Braves to replace Max Fried

The Atlanta Braves have a tough decision to make this winter.

Atlanta's biggest decision this winter certainly will revolve around ace Max Fried. The two-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove Award winner will be a free agent and will be one of the best available.

Because of this, there surely will be plenty of competition for his services. Atlanta may bring him back into the fold, but if it doesn't, there will be options in free agency.

One player who could be a great fit for the Braves in this case is New York Mets starter Luis Severino. He had a 3.91 ERA across 31 starts for the Mets and bounced back in a major way after a down year in 2023 with the New York Yankees.

Severino will be significantly less expensive than Fried. He currently is projected to get a three-year deal worth roughly $46 million by Spotrac. Atlanta certainly got a good look at him facing off within the division, and it certainly could make sense to go after him.

He is just 30 years old and wouldn't be much of a drop-off from Fried at a fraction of the cost. Atlanta certainly should look to bring Fried back, but if he does end up leaving, Severino wouldn't be a bad second option.

The Braves had a tough 2024 season, but better health plus one or two more key pieces put Atlanta back into the World Series conversation in 2025.
