Fantasy Football Start or Sit Week 7: Grant Calcaterra, Jahan Dotson

    By Ryan OLeary,

It’s a huge week for the Philadelphia Eagles . The team hasn’t won back-to-back games since Weeks 11 and 12 of 2023, when they knocked off the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills to improve to 10-1.

The Cleveland Browns and New York Giants of 2024 don’t exactly add up, but the Eagles will take any semblance of momentum they can get these days.

The passing game has been a tractor pull since Week 1, when the team had its top three pass catchers — A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert — healthy and on the field for all four quarters. They haven’t been since, and likely won’t be again in Week 7 against the Giants with Goedert working through a hamstring issue .

For fantasy purposes, the Eagles have a handful of players — Brown, Smith, Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley — who are must-starts regardless of the matchup. But what about the backup tight end and No. 3 wide receiver?

    Let’s break it down:

Fantasy Football Start or Sit Week 7: Grant Calcaterra

Goedert has struggled with injuries throughout his career with the Eagles, and Calcaterra is the next man up.

After Goedert went down early against the Browns, Calcaterra assumed his role in the passing game as TE1. He was solid, catching four passes for 67 yards, including an explosive catch and run of 34 yards in the second quarter.

With Goedert trending towards missing Sunday’s game against the Giants, there will be added opportunity for Calcaterra in the passing game. The question, though, is how much opportunity?

Hurts will continue to work through Brown and Smith, and star running back Saquon Barkley figures to be heavily involved in the game plan in his first trip back to MetLife Stadium as an Eagle.

He’s worth keeping an eye on if Goedert misses multiple weeks, but Calcaterra shouldn’t be on the fantasy radar just yet.

    Verdict: Sit him.

Fantasy Football Start or Sit Week 7: Jahan Dotson

Dotson’s impact continues to be minimal as the Eagles’ WR3, but he did make a nice 10-yard sideline grab for a first down on Philly’s game-sealing drive against the Browns. Could that be a sign that Hurts is ready to start looking Dotson’s way more often?

I wouldn't count on it. Dotson was an afterthought in the offense when both Smith and Brown were out of the lineup with injuries. He’s well down the list of preferred targets with both of those guys back, even with Goedert likely missing this week’s game.

Even if you hate your current flex options, they’re better than Dotson in Week 7.

    Verdict: Sit him.
