Manchester United fans seem to be losing patience with their manager, Erik ten Hag, as a recent survey by BetMGM reveals a growing desire for change.

Nearly 70% of fans believe that the Dutchman should be sacked, with some eager for a decision before Christmas.

The poll also identified the preferred candidates to take over should Ten Hag become the fifth permanent United manager to lose his job since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013.

Poll shows majority of Man United fans want Ten Hag sacked

According to the survey, 28% of fans want Ten Hag gone by Christmas, while 21% are calling for immediate action. In total, 68% of those polled believe the manager should be dismissed.

Another 19% think he should be backed until the January transfer window before the club makes any major decisions. However, 23% believe the current manager deserves to stay until the end of the season to prove himself.

As Ten Hag faces mounting pressure, Zinedine Zidane has emerged as the top choice to replace him, with 26% of fans backing the French legend, just ahead of former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy and ex-England boss Gareth Southgate (both 20%).

Erik ten Hag hits out at media 'fairy tales' over future

Erik ten Hag has brushed off rumors about his future at United, calling them "fairy tales" in response to reports suggesting his job was in jeopardy.

In the weeks leading up to the international break, pressure on the Dutchman had intensified. United's key decision-makers, including Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Joel Glazer, held a seven-hour meeting to review the season so far, and Ten Hag's future was one of the subjects covered.

United's struggles have been clear, with just two wins from their first nine games across all competitions. They sit in 14th place in the Premier League table as they prepare to face Brentford this weekend.

Despite the poor form, Ten Hag still appears to have the backing of INEOS, and during his pre-match press conference, he dismissed the speculation about his future while acknowledging that results need to turn around soon.

Addressing the rumors on Friday, Ten Hag said: "The noise is only coming from some of you in the media, making up stories and fairy tales, spreading lies. I saw the reports. Of course, we're not happy with where we are, but we're calm and confident in our plan. We believe it will bring success."
