Chiefs urged to trade for $30 million All-Pro receiver from NFC West team

The Kansas City Chiefs have a chance to make NFL history. And they also have a major issue standing in their way.

Coming off back-to-back Super Bowl wins, the Chiefs are looking to become the first team in the modern era to win three consecutive championships. However, despite their 5-0 record, their offense looks more thin than it has at any point since Patrick Mahomes II took over as quarterback.

With star receivers Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown out for the year, the Chiefs either need to look to the trade market for help at the position, or be content with a lackluster group of pass-catchers and trust Mahomes to make it work. It would be wise to opt for the former.

If they're looking for a trade partner, the Chiefs could luck out if the Seattle Seahawks decide to sell one of their more expensive talents. Nick Villano of FanSided proposed Friday that the Chiefs could acquire Seahawks veteran star Tyler Lockett in a deadline blockbuster.

"The Seattle Seahawks have Lockett’s replacement in Jaxson Smith-Njigba. He’s looked better and better each week. Lockett has been decent this season, but the Seahawks could be really good with or without Lockett," Villano said.

"The Chiefs won’t have to give up everything to make the deal happen, and the Seahawks can get the most out of the Chiefs because they don’t hoard assets as they try to make a three-peat happen."

A 10-year veteran, Lockett has 8,333 receiving yards and 60 touchdowns in his illustrious career. He's a three-time All-Pro, though he hasn't achieved the honor since 2017, and he once put up over 1,000 receiving yards every season from 2019 to 2022.

There's one thing Lockett is missing, though, and that's a Super Bowl ring. He was drafted by a Seahawks team coming off their second-straight appearance in the big game, but Seattle hasn't sniffed the top of the mountain since.

Bringing Lockett to Kansas City would be the best scenario for all involved. The Chiefs get what they need, Lockett gets a chance to win the big one, and the Seahawks get salary relief while allowing Smith-Njigba all the room he needs to become a star.
