Phillies $8 million All-Star called possible trade fit for Astros

Could a trade be on the horizon with the Philadelphia Phillies?

Clearly, things didn't go the way the Phillies hoped for this postseason.

The Phillies were one of the best teams in baseball all year but failed to make a deep postseason run as they were knocked out by the New York Mets. Now, the Phillies have a lot of time to chart a path forward and go back to the drawing board.

Bleacher Report's Zachary Rymer put together a list of each team's most likely trade candidate this winter and mentioned All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm. This doesn't mean that a deal is coming, but Rymer floated the Houston Astros as a fit .

"The Phillies made the World Series in 2022, but back-to-back years of diminishing returns have raised the question of whether changes need to be made," Rymer said. "Multiple players stand out as potential trade candidates to this end, but none quite like Alec Bohm. He endured a brutal end to his 2024 season after an All-Star first half, and questions about his composure just keep finding new ways to resurface.

"The Phillies would dodge a projected $8.1 million salary for 2025 if they were to trade the 28-year-old...Potential Fits: Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners."

Bohm earned his first All-Star nod in 2024 and is just 28 years old. He's someone who could be worth keeping around for the foreseeable future. He launched 15 home runs and drove in 97 runs in 143 games.

Although the end of the season didn't end great for Bohm, he's someone worth keeping around. If the Phillies decided to make a move, they likely could get a very solid package in return for him. There's merit to both sides of the conversation. All in all, hopefully, the Phillies can make a deeper run in 2025.
