Phillies six-year veteran projected to get $4 million contract

The Philadelphia Phillies have a handful of players hitting free agency this winter.

Philadelphia had a fantastic regular season in 2024, but the postseason didn't work out in its favor. The Phillies are now on the outside looking in on the playoffs and now need to go back to the drawing board.

Will the Phillies lose any players in free agency this winter? It certainly is a possibility. The Phillies have a handful of players hitting free agency, and one who will hit the open market is six-year veteran pitcher Spencer Turnbull.

The 32-year-old joined the Phillies ahead of the 2024 campaign and appeared in 17 games overall. He made seven starts and appeared in 10 games out of the bullpen. Overall, he finished the season with a 2.65 ERA while logging a 58-to-20 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 54 1/3 innings pitched.

Turnbull will hit free agency and currently is projected to get a one-year deal worth roughly $4 million. That wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for the Phillies. Philadelphia has money to spend and likely will be looking to bring in some players in free agency or the trade market.

Bringing back Turnbull could make some sense as he could be a cheap option to provide familiar depth. What's the downside if they could bring him back for that price point? It seems like a solid idea.
