Despite the fact that he admitted the team had made a decision about who the starting quarterback would be for Week 7 between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin did not reveal who it was.

Tomlin made the declaration about having made a starting quarterback on Friday , but the actual name of the starter was not revealed. Believe it or not, there are some fans who are peeved at this.

"Good thing Tomlin forced the Jets to prepare for Justin Fields all week," one fan wrote on X . "I bet NY is in a state of panic. Ripping up their game plans. And cramming for Russell Wilson right now. More proof that Tomlin is a brilliant coach."

"Tomlin's favorite (pastime) is outsmarting himself," another fan wrote . "He has this need to try to do 'clever' things that waste his energy and usually backfire. This is one of many."

"Not that Tomlin’s not a great coach, but it’s not because of him hiding his cards on this," another fan added .

Truth be told, Tomlin's approach here is completely irrelevant. Sure, he didn't tell the public, but rest assured the players already knew what was coming and that's really all that matters.

You need not look any further than wide receiver George Pickens' comments on Friday, when he slipped up and revealed that Wilson was indeed going to start. Clearly the players knew what was up.

“Yeah, getting on the same page (with Wilson after practice, throwing,” Pickens said, via Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com . “More than usual, because this is his first start.”

Adding to that, it was reported earlier in the week that Wilson was on track to start, so all signs have been pointing to the veteran signal-caller getting the nod for days now.

Is Tomlin's gamesmanship unnecessary? Sure, but it doesn't hurt the Steelers or their fans one bit. You can argue about Tomlin going to Wilson instead of sticking with Fields, but getting mad over the secretive approach isn't worth wasting time on, especially when the impending decision was so obvious.
