Jerod Mayo expressed harsh truth about Patriots after loss to Jaguars

The New England Patriots earned their sixth loss in a row on Sunday, as they fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars 32-16 at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

New England entered the season expecting to be a team that ran the ball well and played tight defense, but neither of those things happened in this Week 7 loss.

Rhamondre Stevenson, Antonio Gibson and JaMycal Hasted totaled just 20 yards on the ground on 1.7 yards per attempt. Some of that was due to the poor offensive line play, but the running backs didn't help out.

Defensively, they couldn't stop anything, especially Jacksonville's rushing attack. The duo of Tank Bigsby and D'Ernest Johnson rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns on 4.5 yards per carry. And, it wasn't like last week where they popped a few big plays, they consistently hit New England with 4 or 5-yard gains.

After the game, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo called out his team before questions were even asked.

"Disappointing game. We came out. We started fast. What I will say is, look, we're a soft football team across the board," Mayo said. "You talk about what makes a tough football team. That's being able to run. That's being able to stop the run. That's being able to cover kicks. We did none of those today.

"They controlled the ball for most of the day. Their run game averaged over 4.5 yards a carry. Our run game, not sure what the average was, but it wasn't good. Back to the drawing board."

New England's rookie head coach doesn't seem to have the answers right now, and it's partially on him and his staff and partially on Eliot Wolf and the front office for not building a better roster.
