Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow has held his position for roughly a calendar year now. During that time he's been evaluating the front office, and he's ready to make changes.

According to MassLive's Sean McAdam and Chris Cotillo , Boston is set to hire Tampa Bay Rays director of predictive modeling Taylor Smith to a "high-ranking role with a focus on analytics."

Smith graduated from the University of George in 2018 and spent the last seven seasons with Tampa Bay working his way up from analyst to his current role which he took on after the 2021 season.

According to the Rays' media guide, Smith "oversees the organization’s player valuation models and provides mentorship and oversight to baseball research and development staff."

The Red Sox currently have four assistant general managers, including Eddie Romero, Paul Toboni, Raquel Ferreira and Mike Groopman.

However, Toboni is considered a serious candidate for Boston's open general manager position.
