Yankees predicted to be among top landing spots for Astros superstar free agent

The New York Yankees are solely focused on the upcoming World Series matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers , but they should be among the most active teams in free agency.

While the Juan Soto sweepstakes will rightfully be the top headline regarding the hot stove this offseason, the Yankees could be in the market to make other moves as well.

Assuming they re-sign Soto to a historic contract, it will be interesting to see how that will impact their ability to bring in high-quality players at positions of need.

As a bit of a surprise, the Yankees were listed as a top-five landing spot in free agency for Houston Astros superstar Alex Bregman by Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report .

"If some bridges could be rebuilt, though, Bregman would fit really well at third base for the Yankees in 2025. Jazz Chisholm Jr. could then shift back to second base, with the Yankees presumably allowing Gleyber Torres to depart in free agency," Kelly wrote.

Kelly also mentioned how unlikely it would be for the Yankees to sign Bregman to a deal in excess of $100 million if they re-sign Soto.

Regardless, it's just another example of how badly the Yankees need to upgrade the third base position this offseason.

Even with Chisholm doing an admirable job being thrust into the starting hot corner role without any experience this season, he's likely not the long-term option there. His natural position is second base, and the Yankees may want to get him more reps in the outfield to give Aaron Judge a spell at times.

Bregman's free agency will be one to watch even if it does feel unlikely that the Yankees will be the team to sign him this winter.
