The Washington Commanders had quite the injury scare during their 40-7 Week 7 win over the Carolina Panthers , as star rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a rib injury in the first quarter.

After getting checked out on the sideline, Daniels, who was clearly in pain, was taken to the locker room for further evaluation and did not return to the game. Thankfully, the Commanders didn't need him and took care of business.

But it goes without saying that Washington's season rides on the arm of the No. 2 overall pick. It appears the Commanders have dodged a bullet and Daniels' injury isn't serious after his mom provided a positive update . We also saw Daniels on the sideline after being ruled out, and he gave a thumbs up to signify he was OK.

However, his status for Week 8 is uncertain as of Monday morning. Here's the latest on Daniels.

    Jayden Daniels injury update

UPDATE: According to Commanders head coach Dan Quinn, Daniels is currently week-to-week with his rib injury, although Quinn is holding out hope the rookie will be able to play in Week 8, but noted the team will be cautious, as it should be.

FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz adds that the team will wait and see how things progress during the week before making a final decision on Daniels.

    End of update

Unfortunately, things remain unclear as the page turns to Week 8. What we do know is that Daniels is set to undergo more tests to determine the severity, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport .

Per Mike Jones of The Athletic , we may not know more about Daniels' status for the upcoming game against the Chicago Bears until Wednesday or Thursday this week.

It would obviously be less than ideal if Daniels misses a game or more, but the Commanders have to err on the side of caution and not rush the young signal-caller's return and risk further injury that would also derail their season.

Not to mention, with the team sitting at 5-2 and in first place, and with a strong backup quarterback in Marcus Mariota, who was excellent on Sunday, the Commanders are in a good position to allow Daniels to take his time.

As we wait for more information on Daniels' injury, it appears we can at least hang our hats on the fact that the rookie signal-caller avoided a serious issue. That's about all Commanders fans can ask for right now.
