Cowboys urged to cut ties with $1.1 million free agency addition

The Dallas Cowboys are 3-3 without a single win at home. They have had a rough start to the year on both sides of the ball. They may need to look into making some key changes to their personnel.

While listing players the Cowboys need to bench or cut, FanSided's Mike Luciano urged the team to move on from Carl Lawson.

"Dallas was taking a risk with Lawson, as the former pricy New York Jets pass rusher was beset by serious injuries, including an Achilles tear," wrote Luciano. "This may have been Lawson's last stop on the block, and he has shown the player who used to blow past tackles in Cincinnati may not be coming back."

Lawson suffered an injury that kept him out of the 2021 season. In 2022 with the New York Jets, he started 17 games and recorded 7.0 sacks. He played in just 6 games in 2023. He signed a one-year, $1.1 million deal with the Cowboys before the season.

"Lawson has tried to fill in for a beat-up Cowboys pass rush, but he has tallied just four tackles and one-half sack. Lawson has not recorded a full sack since the 2022 season," wrote Luciano. "While not entirely his fault, Dallas has to eventually switch something up, as Lawson is playing inadequately."

Dallas has not been great on defense. They may need to move on from Lawson to get more snaps to a younger player who could potentially give them a spark.
