The Dallas Cowboys could use a boost on offense before the upcoming National Football League trade deadline.

Dallas seems to be making a change at running back this week, but it still could make some sense to consider a trade before the deadline. The Cowboys have had one of the worst rushing offenses in football, and it has led the franchise to be very pass-heavy.

Adding Dalvin Cook to the mix could help fix things against the San Francisco 49ers. But, they also could look to add, and USA Today's Jacob Camenker suggested Arizona Cardinals star James Conner as a trade fit .

"James Conner," Camenker said. "Dallas Cowboys. The Arizona Cardinals are making strides in Jonathan Gannon's second season with the team, but they aren't yet a contender. Conner is a 29-year-old running back, so it isn't clear whether he fits the team's timeline for contention despite his output of 504 rushing yards at 4.6 yards per carry through seven games.

"Conner would be an ideal fit for Dallas as an upgrade over the underwhelming duo of Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliott. That would take some playmaking pressure off Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb and open things up for the Cowboys passing game."

Conner is in the final year of a three-year, $21 million deal. He is a two-time Pro Bowler with 504 yards on the ground and three touchdowns so far this season. That type of production immediately would help the Cowboys' offense.

A trade should be considered unlikely, but nothing should be ruled out.
