France is known for it’s flair for the dramatic, decadence, art and high theater. And it was all on full display Sunday as the closing ceremony ended the Olympics on a high note. The ceremony began with a HUGE crowd of people waiting outside the Stade de France to be allowed entry. While that was happening, France’s own new sports superstar, multi-gold medal swimmer Léon Marchand walked the Olympic lantern through the Jardin des Tuileries.

Nonetheless, if the closing ceremony venue looked extremely familiar to you. You have a good eye. Or you just really enjoyed watching the track and field events. It is in that very same space that Marchand delivers the Olympic lantern.

Once inside the stadium, the French national anthem was played followed by the fan favorite moment... the parade of athletes. After seeing the smiling faces of global elite Olympians, it was time for a little fun and music; with everyone in the stadium participating in a lively karaoke session. However, with the conclusion of the rousing crooning; it was then time for some "storytelling." All in the audience fell silent as the stadium transformed into the grand theater. The premise of the production was the role the French played in restarting the Olympic games.

The stage filled with many costumed performers acting out a world without the Olympics. Highlighted by a character called the Golden Voyager. However, fortunately we don't have to live in such a world. Thanks to efforts of those long ago, the Olympics shall continue to go on, allowing the best to compete. The performers then brought every story element together into a finale. Showcasing the rebirth of the Olympics culminating with the raising of the five Olympic rings.

The audience was then treated to a mini-concert headlined by the group Phoenix. This performance was fun, energetic and wonderfully lively. The perfect ending to a couple weeks of entertaining sporting events. The perfect goodbye to Paris, France.

It then was time for the games to be passed to Los Angeles. The future host of the 2028 Summer Olympics. Mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, along with gold medalist gymnast Simone Biles were on hand for the passing of the Olympic flag. Mayor Bass walked off to the side of the stage. And singer, HER, took the stage and sang the U.S. national anthem while playing the guitar.

Suddenly a few faint notes could be audibly heard... echos of the iconic Mission Impossible theme song. Ethan Hunt, a.k.a. Tom Cruise repelled himself down to the stage from the very top of the stadium. Can you say, LEGENDARY! What says Los Angeles more than a Hollywood production? Cruise's dare devilish stunt occurs all while HER played a sick guitar riff. Cruise walked through a corridor of athletes slapping hands and taking photos. He then quickly made his way to the stage where Bass and Biles awaited him with the flag.

Then he mounted a motorcycle (once again completely giving Mission Impossible and Top Gun vibes) and drove himself and the Olympic flag out of the stadium. He took to the streets of Paris passing iconic Parisian symbols like the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. And drove the motorcycle into the belly of a jumbo plane then took off. And because it’s Tom Cruise he had to parachute out of the plane. Once again, would we expect anything less from one of the greatest action stars ever?

Once on the ground he ran to the Hollywood sign which was altered to include the Olympic rings. The flag was taken on a journey through LA by multiple people until it arrived in Long Beach.

There on the beach the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed a set, followed by Billie Eilish. Following those musical artists, the LA vibes continued, Olympics fixture Snoop Dog showed up and performed a song. Then he was joined on stage by Dr. Dre and they performed The Next Episode. At the end of the hip hop set a puff of Olympic ring like clouds were released.

Los Angeles Set To Host The 2028 Olympics

With the turning over of the flag completed, we returned to Paris. Léon Marchand walked to the stage and joined the Olympics president Thomas Bach and a few other athletes. Bach then pronounced the XXXIII Olympic Games closed.

And they all came together and the Olympic lantern flame was blown out.

Man... what a Summer Games! There were highs. And there were definitely some lows. But all in all the Paris Olympics were full of amazing moments that we won't soon forget. Therefore, congratulations to all the athletes and champions, you should definitely be proud of all of your hard work. And we can't wait for 2028!
