She put on a SHOW! Dropping big threes, racking up points and sending the crowd energy into an all out frenzy. And of course, she once again made more W history in just her first season ever. What did Indiana’s superstar do tonight? Caitlin Clark is now the first player with 30 points and 12 assists in a game in WNBA history.

No one else. Just her. When you look in the history books it will just read Caitlin Clark.

The Fever took to social media after the big game in order to announce and herald Clark’s latest achievement. In a brief posting the team mentions,

“Caitlin Clark drops a career-high 31 points & 12 assists in the win over Chicago. [The] first player with a 30+ PTS, 12 AST & 5 3PM game in WNBA history. WNBA-leading 11th double-double by a guard this season. Rookie of the Year.”

Nice. And that last sentence is certainly ringing bells of truth. All season long, there’s been so much discourse and chat about Rookie of the Year. Yet tonight, Caitlin Clark put an exclamation point on all the talk with her dominant performance. Without a doubt the ROTY of accolades should have her name written all over it.

However, Clark is not even thinking about that right now. She is a team first player. And Indiana is rapidly moving up in the standings.

After looking very “fragmented” and not on the same page for most of the season. The Fever franchise is suddenly gelling and looking like a playoff bound team. Indiana put on a clinic in a highly anticipated matchup against rivals, the Chicago Sky. Winning not just by a few points. But by almost 20, taking down Chicago 100-81.

Moreover, Indiana has also won most of their games since their return after the Olympic break. So then, what’s going on? Why is the Fever firing on all cylinders? Clark answered these questions and gave her thoughts on her team’s latest win against Chicago. She states,

I think we just understand each other a lot better. Having the chemistry and having the time to play with one another you just build confidence. I think you’re seeing that. … I’m proud of this group. We’re been sharing the ball, we’re taking good shots and that’s helping our transition game and it helps us on defense, too.

Minus the first six minutes of the game, I thought we were really good. We played sound defense. I’m just proud of this group. I thought we battled, and we didn’t let it get close at the end and that was kind of the problem last time we were here. We let them come back, we know they’re a really good fourth-quarter team, but we battled and figured it out.

I thought we played really well and this was a big one for us. It almost counts towards two when you’re in a playoff race, like a loss and a win. We knew it was a big one, but also we wanted to win the season series with them. That was kind of a focus point.”

They’re focused. And it is paying off. The Fever’s Friday win versus the Chicago Sky improves their record to 16-16, matching the Mercury. Yet, the Fever’s win made them swap the 6th and 7th spots with Mercury in the WNBA standings. Remember the top eight teams make the playoffs, so Indiana is in a good position.
