A very frightening and disturbing situation for a rookie NFL athlete. The San Francisco 49ers first round pick Ricky Pearsall was shot during a robbery incident in northern California. The unnerving event occurred on Saturday afternoon.

Pearsall was just going about his day. Earlier he had been seen interacting with fans while signing autographs. Later on, but before the shooting he had been eyed inside of a store.

Dion Lim, a TV anchor for KBO-TV San Francisco; was among the first television reporters to convey details to the public about Ricky. In her initial report posted online via social media platform X (formerly Twitter); she breaks the shocking news stating,

“BREAKING: multiple sources confirm to me Ricky Pearsall, 1st round draft pick for the 49ers shot in robbery incident in Union Square.

More to come…”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter also confirmed the shooting after Lim’s official report hit. He briefly says,

“[The] 49ers first-round pick Ricky Pearsall was shot today in San Francisco, as Dion Lim reported.”

Fortunately, this attack was not fatal. Pearsall was able to receive immediate medical assistance after apparently taking a shot to the chest. He was also able to walk on his own with minimal help to the ambulance that was waiting for him after the attempted robbery. A very comforting sign.

Furthermore less than an hour later, reporter Dion Lim was able to provide yet another positive update. She mentions,

“UPDATE: condition is stable. Suspect is in custody. Pearsall was signing autographs at Cow Palace earlier in the afternoon and headed to Union Square after. Multiple sources tell me he was at a high end designer store not long before he was shot.”

Nevertheless, what exactly happened and when? FOX 2 journalist Sal Castaneda had thought the robbery could have been overall a Rolex watch, but in the end could not 100 percent confirm this particular detail with SFPD. However, the San Francisco PD did release some intel about the Pearsall situation, the department explains,

“On August 31, 2024, at approximately 3:37 p.m., San Francisco Police officers responded to the area of Geary Street and Grant Avenue on a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located two male subjects suffering from injuries.

Officers rendered aid and medics transported both subjects to a local hospital for further medical evaluation.

During the preliminary investigation, officers learned one of the subjects attempted to rob the victim, San Francisco 49ers player Ricky Pearsall. During the attempted robbery, a physical altercation ensued, and both the suspect and victim were injured. The suspect is in custody and charges are pending at this time. All information is preliminary, and more information will be provided as it becomes available. Media availability will be held this evening at San Francisco General Hospital.

Moreover, San Francisco Mayor, London Breed, also released a statement regarding today’s violence against Pearsall. She says,

“This afternoon, there was an attempted robbery in Union Square involving San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and he was shot.

SFPD was on scene immediately and an arrest of the shooter was made. My thoughts are with Ricky and his family at this time. We will provide more updates, including on his condition, as I receive them.

I’m currently at San Francisco General Hospital. We will be providing updates to the media shortly.”
