Indiana Fever’s most dynamic player does not even need any more reasons as to why she is this season’s rookie of the year. However, this one particular scoring stat is definitely deserving of attention and some shine. During the 2024 season Caitlin Clark has now scored 700 points; but get this… reaching 700 is an achievement that less than two percent of WNBA players have been able to attain to in a season.

So yes, once again a rookie is better than over 90 percent of the league. It’s this type of dominance and talent that made Clark a household name in college. And it is why there is more sellouts, higher ratings, higher social media presence and more merch sales than ever before in W history. Players like Caitlin and A’ja Wilson are bringing a more exhilarating experience to the game. It’s exciting to watch and it is only going to get better.

Furthermore, on Wednesday night, the pair played against each other. And they both put up what was needed to set records and continue to distinguish themselves as elite. MVP favorite A’ja Wilson, finished with 27 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. And Clark who has been averaging 25 points over the last 10 previous games; scored 16 points, with 6 assists and 3 rebounds.

Nevertheless, Caitlin didn’t just turn heads in this matchup of the Fever versus the Aces because she hit 700 points. Something else exciting also happened.

In the first half of the game against Las Vegas, Clark reached 700 career points. According to StatMamba on X, Only 1.8% of all players in WNBA history have reached this points total in a single season.

ALSO with over 300 assists on the season, Clark is the first player in WNBA history with at least 700 points and 300 assists in a season (via Basketball Reference’s StatHead). So then, the firsts just keep on coming.

With this just being Caitlin’s rookie year in the league, there’s still so much more she can achieve. We are only at the beginning of her journey in the WNBA. Therefore, we are witnessing a legend in the making; and we’re all just fortunate sports bystanders that get to watch it and enjoy it unfold.
