This year’s front runner MVP has been absolutely electric on the court and has now etched her name into the WNBA history books. Las Vegas Aces A’ja Wilson records the most points ever in a single season.

A’ja Wilson broke the WNBA single-season scoring record with her 941st point just before the 1st half of the Aces’ game against the Fever. Wilson needed just 35 games to top last year’s record by Jewell Loyd (939), who did it in 38 games. Wilson’s previous high was 912 points, set in 40 games last season. She now has 956 pointsthis season and could potentially be the first player in league history to reach 1,000 in a year. So we will definitely be on points watch to see if that happens over the next few games.

The WNBA regular season ends on September 19, and the WNBA Playoffs are set to begin on September 22. Therefore, if Wilson wants to reach 1K, time is of the essence. However, with the way she has been playing it is very doable. Averaging 27.4 ppg and with a recent 40 point game under her belt.

“It’s a blessing. It really is, it’s something that I don’t take for granted. I mean we have some phenomenal players in this league; so for my name to be on the list it’s truly a blessing. And I have to credit my teammates because without them I wouldn’t get the basketball.

But at the same time, just them continuing to pour into me so I can pour into them; it just goes a long way.

[Also] the entertainment side of the fun side of the game of basketball, is so much fun to play. It’s something that I love and I enjoy, so that gets me going every morning. Seeing that young girl that wants to be the next me, the next person; the next WNBA player, like that’s what gets me going. And I’m [going to] continue to do that every single time I step foot on on the court.

[As for playing tonight] I mean it’s just another win in the column. That’s just something that we’re going to need, that we’re striving to get good playoff seeding. We’re striving against a lot of things.

So this win is just like any other that we’re going to continue to build off of; because we know how hard it is to get a win in this league.
