After doing some serious sports soul searching, the Carolina organization is moving in a new direction when it comes to the quarterback position. The Panthers are benching Bryce Young and will start Andy Dalton. All in the hopes of seeing a much improved Week 3.

No doubt this decision was accelerated due to the team’s performance on the field thus far this season. On Sunday they lost to the Chargers 26-3; and previously on September 8th were beaten by the Saints 47-10. Furthermore, after just two weeks, the Panthers find themselves digging out of a 0-2 record hole. Which places them dead last in the NFC South.

The season is young, but Carolina’s division is already taking shape. The New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have got off to a hot, undefeated start. With both teams currently being 2-0. And the Atlanta Falcons may not have won a game yet, but they have only lost once.

Getting off to a rough start is not what the Panthers franchise wants for themselves or fans, yet here they are. However, with plenty of games left to play, they feel they can still right the ship. Which is why a change at quarterback is occurring; with Bryce Young out and Andy Dalton in, to takeover the QB reigns.

Nevertheless, after Sunday’s loss, fellow Panther Adam Thielen told the press that the team’s issues are not all on Young. Adam mentions,

“I love Bryce to death, man. He works his butt off. He’s a great player. This is not a Bryce Young issue. This is an offensive team issue. We are all in this together. I know what football is, that’s why I love this game with everything I have, because it is the greatest team game. It’s not about an individual.”

However, come Monday a QB decision is made. It is time to change. Bryce Young was a high level prospect (selected first overall by the Panthers in the 2023 NFL draft); that some feel just didn’t receive the proper development within the Carolina organization in order to truly flourish; and be his best at a professional level. Still Young’s footwork and reads on the field, and troubles with the long pass continued to be an issue for the young player. Nonetheless, perhaps watching vet, Andy Dalton in action could prove to be a good thing for Bryce. We will see.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero confirmed the quarterback switch out news. He states,

“Sources: The Panthers are benching former No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young and starting veteran Andy Dalton beginning this week. Coach Dave Canales has repeatedly said “Bryce is our quarterback.” But with the season quickly slipping away, Canales decided to make a change.”

NFL fans will get to see Dalton toss the pigskin against the Las Vegas Raiders. The teams will battle on Sunday.
