When you think of Aaron Judge, you think home run juggernaut. During the 2024 season Judge smashed 58 homers which was the most by any player in any league (Ohtani finished the year with an impressive 54 home runs). Moreover, Judge became the fastest player to hit 300 home runs in MLB history; a nice achievement to go along with his AL record for most home runs in a season (62) back in 2022. With this much talent offensively, you would think that Judge would easily cream everyone during the postseason. Yet, that’s not what is occurring. As of Monday, the Yankees Aaron Judge has the highest strikeout rate than any player in the playoffs with 200 plate appearances.

Crazy. This just feels so uncharacteristic for Aaron, given what we get to see him do during the regular season. But during the playoffs it’s a whole other beast. It’s about who gets hot and stays that way. Nevertheless, Ben Verlander confirms Judge’s postseason statistics. He states,

“Aaron Judge is now 0-5 with 4 K’s this postseason.

He has a 35% K rate in the playoffs. The highest EVER for any player with at least 200 PAs.”

So then, there is room for improvement on Judge’s end. So far during the ALDS matchup against the Royals, Aaron is 1-7. With four strikeouts and two walks. Walks are helpful, since getting on base gives your team a chance to score. However, when you are the best bat in the lineup; it’s not quite good enough.

Of course, it takes an entire team, not just one person to win a championship. But Judge’s postseason performance is certainly worrying to New York fans. He’s the captain, the leader. So more is expected. But good thing is, he wants to improve and be more effective at the plate.

After Monday’s game Judge addressed how he is feeling so far at the plate. Aaron was honest and explained what he as well as the rest of the team needed to do in order to get things on back in track during game three. Judge reveals,

“The boys are pumped up, excited. They’re definitely disappointed after this loss, but I think it definitely fired the guys up.

If I’m not hitting 1.000, I’m not feeling good. Just gotta keep getting on base for the guys behind me. If they get on, I gotta drive ’em in.”

There is still plenty of time for Judge to prove that he is and can be a postseason threat. The series between the Royals and Yankees is now tied 1-1. With two more wins at stake in order to move on in the postseason; Judge has the opportunity to change his playoffs narrative once and for all. To be the guy to help bring his team to glory. And it is time… all rise.
