There are always blown plays in sports. However, there are other plays that seem to be doomed from the start and need to expeditiously vanish from usage. Case in point, the Rushing 2 defense play that is not working well at the professional level or in college.

This particular defensive design comes across majorly flawed. In football you do not want the quarterback to be comfortable in the pocket. And you do not want to provide him so much time that he can keep searching for an open man; and allow an offensive strike to develop. Seriously, how scared is a QB going to be with just two defenders around?

Therefore, it’s important to run a defense to get stops and keep an offense on its toes. Since the truth is: Good defense helps to win games. Good defense wins championships. But not playing it properly can quickly blow up in your face.

One good example is the “defense atrocity” that occurred during the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills matchup. Yes, there are other examples available, but let’s just stick to the most recent occurrence. During Monday Night Football, the Bills were rolling with a lead with little to no time left before the end of the first half. Riddle us this: what play does Aaron Rodgers like to play with just seconds left?

We all know. It is Hail Mary time. It’s just what Rodgers does, and oftentimes it pays off for him. Therefore, knowing or at least having a hunch that “a hope and a prayer” deep pass heading for the end zone is coming; why rush just two?

Was Buffalo able to get a stop? You wish. The Jets were able to have enough time to setup down field and then Aaron Rodgers did Aaron Rodgers things. He achieves another successful Hail Mary and cuts the Bills lead. The Jets end up going into halftime only 3 points behind.

However, fortunately for Buffalo, they are still able to get the better of the Jets. They end up winning 23-20. But the game was still close. How different things could have easily gone. But, what do you think, do you feel defenses rushing two guys is smart or a horrendous idea?
