Los Angeles came out swinging, shutting out their opponents 9-0 in Game 1. However, on Monday New Yorkmade it be known that there would come to be a game 5 in this series. And that LA is not going to get to the World Series without a fight. In Game 2, the Mets defeat the Dodgers tying up the 2024 NLCS at 1-1.

New York got the scoring early, with a homer in the first inning. From there they just kept the momentum going. Tacking on run after run.

If you missed the game, here is a quick overview of all the main highlights from both teams:

Top of the 1st: Francisco Lindor homered to right on a 2-2 count. Lindor continues to be a major threat and postseason superstar. Nonetheless, the Mets get a lead, 1-0.

Top of the 2nd: Taylor doubled to left, Marte scored, Winker to third. Vientos homered to center on a full count, Winker scored, Taylor scored, Lindor scored. This grand slam bursts things open for New York. The score is now 6-0.

Bot of the 5th: Muncy homered to right on a 3-1 count. This home run finally gets the Dodgers on the board. It is now 6-1.

Bot of the 6th: The Dodgers continue to battle, desperately trying to catch up. In this inning, Edman singled to right, Betts scored, T.Hernández scored, Freeman to third. The scoreboard now reads, 6-3.

Top of the 9th: The Mets just keep pouring it on, even right at the end of the game. Marte singled to center, which allowed Alonso to score. The Mets win it 7-3.

As one can see, New York got a lead early and did not relinquish it. After being shut out the day before, this was a good bounce back game for the Mets. Since the wild card New York has BATTLED.

But Dodgers manager Dave Roberts still feels good about Los Angeles chances in Game 3. Roberts took some heat for tossing a bullpen game (with Landon Knack being a main character); against the Mets. In a presser Roberts discussed the game and his thoughts on the next match. He states,

“We had an opportunity to minimize the damage. [Our guy] had count leverage. He had Vientos 1-2. It got to 3-2, and then he made a mistake with the heater. That was a big hit, clearly.

It all is great when it works well, and guys are throwing up zeros, but you’re still facing really good ball clubs, and there is a margin that you have to guard against and kind of really appreciate the cost of the next games. When you’re on the margins and you lose a couple guys – if guys aren’t available – you got to figure out how to get outs somehow.

As far as kind of where we’re at, it never feels good losing, but to feel that you’ve got your high-leverage guys ready to go for the next three games, I feel really good about that.”

Well, now we all get to see how things play out. New York and the Dodgers get a day off to regroup. They will play each other again on Wednesday.
