The following article " After slow start opposite MNF, ALCS rebounds in Game 2 " originally appeared on Sports Media Watch .

After a slow start for the opener opposite Monday Night Football , ratings for the Yankees-Guardians ALCS rebounded in Game 2.

Tuesday’s Guardians-Yankees American League Championship Series Game 2 averaged a 2.9 rating and 5.61 million viewers across TBS (2.8, 5.40M) and truTV (0.13, 212K), up 21% and 28% respectively from a Rangers-Astros matinee on FOX and FS1 last year (4.37M), but down 12% and 5% respectively from the Yankees’ previous ALCS against Houston two years ago (3.3, 5.89M).

Compared to last year’s LCS on TBS, ratings increased a tick and viewership 8% from Diamondbacks-Phillies in the National League (2.8, 5.20M).

The Yankees’ win, which peaked with 6.7 million viewers in the 9:15 PM ET quarter-hour, trails only Mets-Dodgers Game 1 in the NLCS (4.0, 8.26M) and Padres-Dodgers Game 5 in the Division Series (3.6, 7.34M) as the most-watched game of the postseason.

Game 2 marked a significant improvement over Game 1 on Monday, which averaged a 2.1 and 3.94 million opposite an all-New York edition of Monday Night Football — down 44% from Rangers-Astros in a post-NFL window on FOX last year (3.7, 7.02M) and a third and 28% respectively from Yankees-Astros on a Thursday night in ’22 (3.1, 5.49M). Compared to last year’s Diamondbacks-Phillies opener on TBS, which also faced MNF , ratings increased a tick and viewership 4% from a 2.0 and 3.83 million.

The Monday night game was an obvious factor both nationally and locally. In New York, the Yankees game had an 11 share — less than half of the 26 generated by MNF.

Through two games, the Yankees-Guardians series is averaging a 2.5 and 4.82 million — down 16% in ratings and 15% in viewership from last year’s NFL-boosted Rangers-Astros figure (3.0, 5.64M) and down 22% and 15% respectively from Yankees-Astros in ’22 (3.2, 5.69M). Compared to last year’s NLCS on TBS, ratings are up 5% and viewership 6% from a 2.4 and 4.53 million.
