Jesse Love knew exactly what to say after emerging from a “Talladega Tradition,” an end-of-event, multi-car crash at the iconic superspeedway.
“I’d say that’s Talladega,” he said, as reported by NASCAR.com.
Despite competing with a damaged No. 2 Chevrolet, Love with three laps remaining in last Saturday’s United Rentals 250 emerged from most of the Turn 1 mele by driving low, but connected with Carson Kvapil’s No. 88 Chevrolet. Love’s Richard Childress Racing team decided to keep the ride on the track to keep his P6 positioning.
On the restart, he maintained his spot, scoring a top-10 finish. Sammy Smith earned a spot in the Round of 8 with the win at Dega, the iconic 2.66-mile tri-oval.
“I mean, I thought we maximized the day once that wreck happened with the 88,” Love said.
The 19-year-old enhanced his playoff position, going from three points above the cutoff line to plus-22 points. Next Saturday’s event at Charlotte Road Course serves as the Round 12 finale.
