Shane van Gisbergen appeared to push the replay button.
About 1.5 hours after earning the NASCAR Xfinity Series pole at Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course, van Gisbergen climbed into a Cup Series machine and claimed the pole position for Sunday’s Bank of America ROVAL 300.
“What an amazing day,” van Gisbergen told NBC Sports. “I’m lost for words.”
He certainly wasn’t lost on the reconfigured, 2.28-mile, 17-turn course.
A three-time Supercars champion, van Gisbergen turned a hot qualifying lap of 99.246 mph Saturday, edging runner-up Tyler Reddick (99.177 mph) and Kaulig Racing teammate AJ Allmendinger, who captured the event last year.
Team Penske garage-mates Joey Logano (98.694) and Austin Cindric (98.580) capped the top-five finishers.
NASCAR To Honor Relief Hero Greg Biffle
Greg Biffle will be honored Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course for his efforts to aid Hurricane Helene victims. The former NASCAR Cup Series driver will serve as an honorary starter for the Bank of America ROVAL 400.
Biffle utilized his helicopter piloting skills the past few weeks to provide disaster relief throughout Western Carolina.
A former Xfinity (Busch) and Truck series champion, Biffle placed second in the 2005 Cup points standings and finished his 16-year career with 19 wins and 175 top-10 finishes.
Biffle is considered one of the Cup Series’ top 75 drivers.
