Nebraska is considering a proposal, which would provide an additional $30 million a year for property tax relief if residents are allowed to engage in sports betting via phones or mobile devices. Gamblers and gaming officials are urging the governor and lawmakers to consider this option when they reconvene for a special session on July 25.

From March through May, Kentucky sportsbooks totaled $67 million in revenue
On Wednesday, the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission reported $66.9 million in sports betting revenue from March through May. Additionally, sportsbooks posted double-digit holds in the final two months of that window. Together, seven retail and seven sports betting apps combined to generate $624.9 million in handle. In the Tarheel State, their legislative session is winding down. As of now, there has been no real movement or push for college player props to be banned from their sports betting catalog. On May 1, Representative Marcia Morey filed House Bill 967 but it never made it out of the rules, calendars, and operations committee. To make matters even more challenging, both chambers adjourned last week and just a few committee meetings are left on the schedule this month. Marcia Morey’s legislative assistant Hannah Smith said the Bill is “unlikely” to move in 2024.

Tennessee collected $87.6 million in the first 12 months of their taxing sports betting handle
Last year, the Tennessee legislature made changes in their method of taxation for sports betting. Instead of their traditional nationwide levy on sports betting operators, Tennessee will offer taxation based on handle starting in the 2023-24 fiscal year. Twelve months later, the Tennessee Sports Wagering Council (SWC) reported $87.6 million in state taxes for the fiscal year they recently completed. Tennessee had a $342.2 million handle for June 2024 and collected $6.3 million worth of receipts. In total, that was $4.3 million more than they had in the fiscal year of 2022-23. SWC Director of Engagement David A. Smith had this to say.
