ALBANY — The Madison Theatre and its adjoining businesses are set to reopen under new operators, nearly seven months after closing their doors.

David Aumand, a longtime resident of Albany’s Helderberg neighborhood, will manage the Pine Hills neighborhood theater. He is partnering with Owusu Anane, Albany Common Council representative for the 10th Ward, who will serve as an investor. Plall Kassam of Clifton Park will run the two adjacent storefronts, including a 70-seat restaurant and a retail space formerly rented by Motor Oil Coffee.

The businesses are expected to reopen by the end of the year.

The Madison Theatre, under Aumand’s leadership, will continue to screen new movie releases, along with occasional independent and local films. In addition to films, the theater will host live events, performances, and karaoke, Aumand said. The venue has four theaters, including a 125-seat auditorium with a stage, as well as a lobby bar. The theater is applying for a liquor license to maintain its status as one of the few cinemas in the region to serve alcohol.

Kassam, who also owns Marwa Beauty Supply on Clinton Avenue, will operate the restaurant, now named The Box Office Restaurant, and a new beauty supply and gift shop.
