SPOTSWOOD, NJ - It's that time of year again when current and former Spotswood High School soccer players put on the cleats to get together to play in the annual summer alumni soccer game. The fourth annual Chargers Soccer Day and alumni game is set for Saturday, August 3, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Check in for participating players begins at 10:30 a.m.

The friendly game between past and present Chargers also serves as a fundraiser for the Spotswood High School boys and girls soccer program. A $25 suggested donation includes a player t-shirt, a hot dog and beverages. Advance registration is required by participating players in order to receive a t-shirt. Registration can be completed online . Participating players must complete the online waiver as well.

Spectators are invited to come out and support the Chargers' soccer programs while enjoying the fourth annual SHS alumni game. The Soccer Snack Shack will be open and selling Chargers merch, hot dogs, snacks and beverages. All the proceeds go to support the Chargers' soccer programs.

Spotswood's past three alumni games have been a hat trick for participants, spectators and Chargers soccer coaches Michael Reid, Jeff Marvinny and Meghan Koppel. The idea to host a soccer alumni game was the brainchild of Maureen Barlow. Barlow's husband, Tom, is a former Chargers soccer player. The couple have three sons who have played for the Chargers, including current Spotswood High School boys varsity soccer player, Kieran Barlow. Kieran Barlow will play his final season for the Chargers this fall.

Reid and Marvinny always wanted to hold a soccer alumni game and were excited when Maureen Barlow approached them with the idea four years ago. The tradition began in August 2020 with the first Chargers soccer alumni game.

Last year, the special day evolved to incorporate Chargers Soccer Day. The Snack Shack was a welcome addition last summer too. It's also open during Chargers home soccer games.
