SPOTSWOOD, NJ - On Friday, the Spotswood High School Athletics Department announced the 2024 Spotswood Athletics Hall of Fame inductees. The ceremony takes place on Saturday, October 26, at the Helmetta Community Center. This year's Chargers Athletics Hall of Fame Class includes Dawn Williams (soccer, basketball and softball), Jake Dadika (basketball), Kyle Price (cross-country and track and field), Cody Pace (basketball and baseball), Carolyn Logan (soccer), Brooke Astor (basketball and track and field) and Roland D'Orvilliers (contributor). The Spotswood High School 2005 Chargers cross-country team that won the state championship will be honored at the event as well.
This is the fourth class to be inducted into the Spotswood Athletics Hall of Fame. The tradition of inducting athletes and contributors into the Spotswood Athletic Hall of Fame began in 2004 when Spotswood School District Superintendent Graham Peabody was Athletic Chair. In 2005, the Spotswood Athletic Hall of Fame inducted its inaugural class, which included:
Charlie Eibeler - basketball and football, 1991-1995
Tracie Fryzowicz Smith - soccer and track and field, 1986-1990
Cheryl Keller Capon Ph.D - cross-country and track and field, 1986-1989
Kevin Kobylinski - baseball and basketball, 1982-1986
Jason Konek - basketball, soccer and track and field, 1987-1991
Drew Scopelliti - basketball and wrestling, 1976-1979
Eugene Zimmerlink - basketball and football, 1977-1981
Coach Joseph DiMario - football and wrestling coach
Coach Bruce Nissenbaum - cross-country coach
After the 2007 class was inducted, there was a 12-year absence. In 2022, the tradition started again with a new class being inducted at a special ceremony at the Helmetta Community Center. The Spotswood Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022 included Timothy Logan (soccer and basketball), William Beard (baseball), Jason Pope (tennis), Beth Dickinson (basketball), and Kevin Brady (contributor). A posthumous induction was given to Ron Mazzola, a former coach and commentator who passed away unexpectedly in 2022. The Spotswood Athletic Hall Of Fame also honored the 2007 Chargers State Championship Baseball Team.
The Spotswood Athletics Department began seeking nominations for the 2024 class of inductees in October 2023. Nominations were submitted via mail and an online form. This year's inductees were chosen by a selection committee. Ticket requests for the induction ceremony at the Helmetta Community Center on October 26 can be made by emailing Spotswood High School Athletic Director Michael Del Aversano at mdelaversano@spsd.us or by telephoning 732-723-2200, extension 5048.
