US VA Secretary Speaks In Oregon On Preventing Veteran Suicide
PORTLAND, OR -- The U.S. Veterans Affairs Secretary is in Oregon this week, for a national VA and Department of Defense Suicide Prevention Conference. Around 2400 mental health experts and veterans advocates are meeting through Thursday at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland. This is the first time the biennial conference has come to Oregon. "This is the largest ever gathering of VA and Department of Defense mental health professionals to focus on this crisis of active duty and veteran suicide," says VA Secretary Denis McDonough. "

Falls Fire grows to 91,000 acres, still 0% contained
The following is the Wednesday morning update on the Falls Fire, posted to the official Falls Fire Facebook page:. The Falls Fire was less active yesterday than predicted. The fire acreage is now estimated to be 91,269 with 0% containment. The fire is burning approximately 13.5 miles north of Burns, 15 miles southwest of Seneca, and 3 miles west of Highway (Hwy) 395. Hwy 395 was reopened yesterday at approximately noon. Traffic traveling between mile posts 44 and 60 will follow lead vehicles through active firefighting operations.

Dufur, Ore. – Scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds impacted Southeast Wasco County and other parts of the state early this morning and only minimally impacted the Larch Creek Fire area. Night crews improved containment and mop-up activities continue to expand. Fire personnel remain on stand-by to monitor for any starts caused by lightning strikes.

Windstorm rips through Crook County
A violent windstorm ripped through Crook County early Tuesday evening downing numerous trees and branches and knocking out power to much of Prineville. The storm hit around 7:30 p.m., shortly after the National Weather Service issued a warning of a severe thunderstorm that was expected to produce gusts of up to 40 miles per hour and pea-sized hail in southern Wheeler and Jefferson counties and northern Crook and Deschutes counties. ...
Mule deer doe killed, left to waste in Jefferson County
Oregon State Police are asking for the public's help to find whoever was behind the illegal take and waste of a mule deer doe in Jefferson County. OSP Fish and Wildlife said the doe was found in the area of NW Hart Street in Madras on June 13 after it was shot with an arrow. The doe likely had been killed the same day and left to waste. The specific location where it was shot is unknown, OSP said.

Large pile fire at Radius Recycling sends smoke over North Portland; second fire at site this year
PORTLAND, Ore. — A fire at a Radius Recycling metal recycling facility in the St. Johns neighborhood broke out Wednesday afternoon, sending up a plume of black smoke visible from as far away as downtown Portland. There were no injuries reported to first responders or plant personnel, according to Portland Fire & Rescue, and it took about five hours to get the blaze under control.
