UMATILLA COUNTY, Ore. -UPDATE: 11:18 p.m. State fire resources have been mobilized for the series of fires near Pilot Rock under the Emergency Conflagration Act. Oregon Governor Tina Kotek invoked the act, which allows the Oregon State Fire Marshal to mobilize resources to protect life and property, on the night of July 17.
Windstorm rips through Crook County
A violent windstorm ripped through Crook County early Tuesday evening downing numerous trees and branches and knocking out power to much of Prineville. The storm hit around 7:30 p.m., shortly after the National Weather Service issued a warning of a severe thunderstorm that was expected to produce gusts of up to 40 miles per hour and pea-sized hail in southern Wheeler and Jefferson counties and northern Crook and Deschutes counties. ...
Mule deer doe killed, left to waste in Jefferson County
Oregon State Police are asking for the public's help to find whoever was behind the illegal take and waste of a mule deer doe in Jefferson County. OSP Fish and Wildlife said the doe was found in the area of NW Hart Street in Madras on June 13 after it was shot with an arrow. The doe likely had been killed the same day and left to waste. The specific location where it was shot is unknown, OSP said.

Large pile fire at Radius Recycling sends smoke over North Portland; second fire at site this year
PORTLAND, Ore. — A fire at a Radius Recycling metal recycling facility in the St. Johns neighborhood broke out Wednesday afternoon, sending up a plume of black smoke visible from as far away as downtown Portland. There were no injuries reported to first responders or plant personnel, according to Portland Fire & Rescue, and it took about five hours to get the blaze under control.

The National Weather Service in Pendleton has issued a Red Flag Warning and a heat advisory for much of Eastern Washington and the lower Columbia Basin of Oregon.
