Man dies from bike fall in Southwest Portland
A bicyclist has died of injuries sustained in a fall in the Multnomah Neighborhood. According to the Portland Police Bureau, the victim is Gad Alon, 74. Emergency medical services were called to the fall at Southwest Capitol Highway and Southwest Florida Street at 6:50 a.m. Saturday, July 6. Police were not called because there was no indication of a crime or a crash involving anyone else. Police said Alon died in a hospital on July 17, 11 days after the fall. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the medical examiner. The death was the 35th traffic related fatality for 2024 in the city of Portland. Man escapes Oregon prison, found 30 years later in Georgia with stolen identity
Authorities have captured Steven Craig Johnson, who escaped from an Oregon state prison nearly 30 years ago and assumed the identity of a deceased child. Johnson, 70, was arrested at an apartment complex in Macon, Georgia, on Tuesday by the US Marshals Service and its fugitive task forces. He had been living under the name William Cox since 2011.

Tributes are being paid by nearly every top official in Oregon to Peter Courtney, the longest serving state legislator and Senate president.
