SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS — The Spring Lake Heights borough council approved two bond ordinances this past Monday night, July 15, allocating $4 million to various improvements.

Ordinance 2024-09 is for roadwork projects and first response communications. Council President William Graetz told the council on June 17 that the police and other first responders’ radio equipment is outdated, and improved connection is needed between the borough’s responders and those of neighboring communities.

“With our mutual aid departments with our surrounding towns, this expenditure will help for inoperability,” Graetz said then. “You have (different channels)…this upgrade would help our first responders communicate with our surrounding areas because not everybody uses the same radio (bandwidth).”

Ordinance 2024-10 would be for utility improvements, including sewer repair/lining, water tank improvements and hydrant replacement.

“I know we discussed that we had a few incidents that the sewer infrastructure is quite dated,” said Councilman and chairman of the finances committee John Casagrande on June 17. “We’ll continue to invest in that over time and continue to improve it, but that is the purpose of these two ordinances.”
