SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS — Joseph E. Robertson Park will once again be home to National Night Out this year, welcoming residents of Spring Lake Heights to socialize with the police department and partake in activities for the whole family.

The annual celebration encourages police forces around the country to connect with the people they are tasked with protecting and serving. This year, on Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 5 p.m. to dusk, Police Chief Ed Gunnell and his department will serve as hosts.

“When I first became chief of police, my goal was to make National Night Out a celebration of the town, to show the pride that the Spring Lake Heights Police Department has in our town and residents, and the appreciation that the community has in their police department,” Chief Gunnell told The Coast Star. “We have always had an excellent turnout and we expect the same this year.”

“We always have a great turnout every year,” Borough Councilwoman Sara King said. “It should be a fun time.”
