BTHS alumna receives Sharing Network Foundation scholarship
BRICK TOWNSHIP — Kimmy Kenny of Brick Township, who is a 2024 graduate of Brick Township High School, was one of seven high school students awarded scholarships from the Sharing Network Foundation. Earlier this month, they were presented the scholarships at NJ Sharing Network’s headquarters in New Providence. Kenny will be attending Ocean County College (OCC) and told The Ocean Star that she plans to attend OCC for two years before transferring into a four year college.
Mayor’s Cup races to return to Twilight Lake
BAY HEAD — The annual Mayor’s Cup aims to set sail on Aug. 3, when residents from the town can race their vessels around Twilight Lake. This annual event sees Bay Head residents race their canoes, kayaks or paddle boards around Kellogg Island in Twilight Lake, for a chance to have their names engraved onto a plaque that will be displayed at Bay Head Borough Hall for the year.
Mayor and council honor Girl Scout Gold Award recipient
BRICK TOWNSHIP — The Brick Township Mayor and Council honored Sofia Gonzales-Trelles for earning her Girl Scout Gold Award at the Tuesday, July 23 council meeting. Mayor Lisa Crate said, “We are honoring Sofia tonight in recognition of her earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, which is the highest achievement in Girl Scouts.
Clambake returns to firehouse Aug. 17
BAY HEAD — Residents and visitors of Bay Head should work up an appetite, as the Bay Head Fire Company’s Annual Clambake is returning next month. On Aug. 17, rain or shine, members of the Bay Head Fire Company alongside volunteers will be serving burgers, hot dogs, hot roast beef sandwiches, soda, beer and craft beers, and of course thousands of clams.
Council approves cut-it-and-leave-it policy
POINT PLEASANT BEACH — The Point Pleasant Beach mayor and council approved a resolution supporting a cut-it-and-leave-it environmental policy in the borough, where homeowners are being encouraged to leave grass clippings on their lawns after mowing. This statewide initiative is intended to both save homeowners money on municipal waste pickup as well as divert the clippings away from solid waste streams, according to a press release about the resolution from the Point Pleasant Beach Environmental Commission.
Buick Club of NJ hosts car show in Wall
WALL TOWNSHIP — Full of all kinds of shapes and sizes, The Buick Club of America – New Jersey Chapter (BCANJ) held its highly anticipated antique car show this past weekend, an automotive tradition that takes place in the Wall Municipal Complex parking lot. Borough Council OK's New Condos in Red Bank
According to The Asbury Park Press, earlier this week a four-story condominium across from Red Bank’s train station was approved unanimously by the borough planning board. In order to build the condos, two houses on Oakland Street, and the Mexican restaurant Mi Lupita’s Kitchen, a detached garage and a neighboring two-story building that currently houses Detour Framing on Bridge Avenue would be razed. The developer reduced the number of units from 32 to 20. The units will all be two-bedroom units with 2 of the condominiums being sold as affordable units.
