    Armstrong/Cooper boys hockey earns 10th win

    The Armstrong/Cooper boys hockey played two games last week, beating Irondale on Jan. 30, before losing to Spring Lake Park two days later. The girls team concluded its regular season with losses to Rogers and Dodge County.

    Armstrong/Cooper boys hockey earned its 10th win of the 2023/24 season on Jan. 30, beating Irondale 4-1 at the National Sports Center.

    Tanner Rausch continued his impressive year with an opening power-play goal in the final minute of the first period. He was assisted by Charlie Goergen and Jameson Essen.

    The Wings added two more in the second period through Brady Northrup and Goergen. The prior was a power play while the latter was a short-handed goal. Irondale did pull one back to make it 3-1, but Rausch scored his second of the night to ensure the 4-1 win.

    The Wings game against Spring Lake Park on Feb. 1 proved more difficult, with Armstrong/Cooper losing 5-1 to the hosts at Fogerty Arena.

    Armstrong/Cooper scored the opening goal thanks to Lewis Majkozak with assists by Noah Gorgos and Andrew Morgan. Spring Lake Park mounted a dominant response, scoring five goals across the remainder of the game from 28 shots.

    Armstrong/Cooper boys hockey will play two games the following week, hosting Coon Rapids and Northern Lakes on Feb. 8 and 10, respectively.

    Wings girls

    Armstrong/Cooper girls hockey faced Rogers in their last Northwest Suburban Conference game of the 2023/24 season last week on Jan. 30, eventually losing 7-2. This ended the Wings’ conference record at 3-7.

    The Wings’ two goals came at the end of the first period and the start of the third. Claire Riestenberg made it 4-1 with an even-strength solo goal, while Gabby Reidhead made it 5-2 with assists from Lydia College and Abby Hanson.

    Three days later, the Wings faced a defeat at the hands of Dodge County on the road, losing 8-0. This result concluded the regular season for Armstrong/Cooper and adjusted its overall record to 9-14-2.

    For the Section 6AA tournament, Armstrong/Cooper earned the No. 4 seed and a home game. The Wings will host No. 5 seed Bloomington Jefferson on Feb. 10. at New Hope Arena.
