Spring Lake Park boys golf finished in second place at the Northwest Suburban Conference end of season tournament May 21 at Bunker Hills, and earned runner-up honors for the season overall as well. Anoka-Hennepin PI closed its season in the state tournament at Chanhassen May 17-18. The Mustangs fell to the eventual champion Dakota United 16-0 in the quarterfinals, then 16-15 against St. Paul Humboldt in the consolation semifinals.

“We definitely played our best game against Humboldt,” Anoka-Hennepin head coach Pete Kutches said. “We hit the ball and ran the bases very well. We did give a few unearned runs, but when our backs were against the wall and needed some runs, the team stepped up and delivered. We forced the game to extra innings and gave ourselves a chance, but just came up short.

“We showed steady improvement throughout the season. We had a few young/new players that had to learn the game and work on their skills. We are definitely building for the future, with the hopes of adding to our roster for the fall of 2024. This group did not have any success in the win column, but they never got too high or too low on the emotional side of things during the season. They would always have a great attitude, work hard, support each other, and compete in every game they played. I was proud of them for that, especially when it would be easy when not collecting a lot of wins.”
