SPRINGDALE, Ark. ( KNWA/KFTA ) — Springdale is set to break ground on a new senior center Tuesday.
The new $14 million senior center will be located along East Emma Avenue and Baggett Street downtown with an expected completion date of Sept. 13, 2025. Mayor Doug Sprouse said he’s excited for the new two-story center — which he said was needed due to outgrowing the current space — to open.
“They’ve got a saying, ‘You rest, you rust,’ and I think that’s true,” Sprouse said on why seniors should use the new facility once it opens. “I’m of an age now, I can realize that, in my own life, you need to keep active and keep doing as many things as you can for as long as you can, and it just adds to your quality of life.”
Bella Vista settles lawsuit on short-term rentals The new senior center is expected to have the following amenities:
- Meals on Wheels
- A 3,100-square-foot commercial kitchen with a walk-in fridge and freezer
- Beauty and barber shop
- Group exercise and fitness rooms
- Indoor pickleball courts
- Billiards
- Arts and crafts
- Library
- Activity center with performance stage
- Game rooms
- Spacious dining area
Sprouse said the city will likely repurpose the current senior center located at 206 Park Street — something it intends to “do more study on” before making a final decision.
