Springfield mother stabbed to death identified

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Sangamon County Coroner has named the 51-year-old mother who was killed in a stabbing that Springfield Police say may have been perpetrated by her 16-year-old son .

Police found Misty Long in a home on Shadowfax Drive with several stab wounds. Coroner Jim Allmon said she was taken by EMS to Springfield Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:15 a.m. on Saturday.

Long’s teenage son was also located at the scene, Springfield Police said. He was taken to the Springfield Police Department and was later charged with first degree murder, aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery, and unlawful use of a weapon.

Initial autopsy results suggest Long died from multiple sharp force injuries, Allmon said. The Coroner and Springfield Police Department continue to investigate the incident.
