It could be a soggy Fourth of July in the Springfield area.

Meteorologist Nicole Albano said a cold front moving into the area Wednesday could likely trigger rain chances, especially if it lingers into Thursday.

Although it's not going to be a total washout, Albano said, there are chances for showers and thunderstorms "pretty much all day."

By Thursday afternoon and into the evening, also known as fireworks time, rain chances are 40% to 50%, she added.

Locally, Fourth of July fireworks displays are set for Robin Roberts Stadium (following the Lucky Horseshoes' game), Sherman Village Park, Chatham Community Park and Knights Action Park. Rock the Dock at Lake Springfield Marina is Friday.

Albano said the area has "a marginal risk" of seeing severe thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon into the evening.

Friday's forecast is mostly sunny with a high temperature of near 82.
