Jay Simpson: I'm tired of hearing about innocent Black people killed by law enforcement

The death of Sonya Massey broke my heart and instantly made me think: What if?
What if it was my mother or any other woman in my family? I couldn’t even imagine the type of hurt her family is dealing with right now because that woman did not deserve to die whatsoever — especially in that fashion.
The way the Sangamon County sheriff’s deputies were speaking to her was flat-out disrespectful from the jump.
This is a woman who was obviously frightened by the police being inside her home.
The tough-guy demeanor officers were carrying was just uncalled for.
I’m sure there were other ways this situation could have gone before they used deadly force on a woman who wasn’t really a threat. These are crimes police commit on Black men; to see it happening to an innocent Black woman just intensifies the rage many Blacks have toward law enforcement.
We are not policed the same as any other race, and it seems some officers — not all — are eager to shoot us.
I’m not condoning any type of violence, but when people grieve, especially over losing an innocent loved one to law enforcement, it can put you in a bad spot mentally, where you want retaliation. But realistically, what can you do to the police? Nothing.
In my opinion, some officers use that to their advantage because they know people can’t do anything to defend themselves and if they do, that just gives them a real reason to kill you.
A lot of Blacks would much rather police themselves because they feel safer that way.
Police are supposed to protect and serve, but the blatant racism and disrespect coming from some of them just because they hold the title is out of line and needs to change.
I’m tired of hearing about innocent Black people killed by law enforcement. It’s getting overwhelming.
