SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (NEXSTAR) — Lawmakers came to a compromise on regulations around Carbon Capture regulations, but some groups are still concerned about the impact the storage of emissions could have on key water sources in the state like the Mahomet Aquifer.

The law Governor Pritzker signed in July contains a list of first-of-their-kind regulations at the state level. The regulations cover the capture, transportation and storage of carbon emissions, and it puts a two year ban on carbon dioxide pipeline projects.

Groups like the Prairie River Network and the Eco-Justice Collaborative are concerned though about the lack of exemption for the Mahomet Aquifer.

Andrew Rehn from the Prairie Rivers Network and Pam Richart from the Eco-Justice Collaborative joined Capitol Connection to discuss the bill and the grass roots push to get the exemption.
