A popular Springfield buffet is shuttering its doors and has listed itself as permanently closed on Google and Yelp .

Customers at Hibachi Grill Supreme Buffet at 2309 S. Macarthur Blvd. said staff was telling guests last week about the closure. Calls to Jin Ming Wu, listed as the owner of the restaurant, were unanswered.

“I haven't mentally recovered from how bad that health report was when they got shut down the last time,” one Springfield resident wrote on Facebook regarding the closure.

In July 2021 , Sangamon County Board of Health Committee closed the grill, with problems listed on the health report included food stored in a broken fridge and mouse droppings in food containers meant for customers to use while consuming food.

The grill reopened in October the same year, after extensive repairs and training with the staff to meet regulation.

The website for Hibachi Grill Supreme is no longer operational, but it’s Facebook page still lists the buffet as “The largest/luxurious buffet in Springfield,” with lots of sushi selections.

The grill was purchased in 2018 by Wu from Steve Zhao, who’s Asian fast-casual restaurants are littered across Springfield. Zhao owns and operates Bowl Plus at 1745 Wabash Ave., two Hibachi Madness’ at 2811 N. Dirksen and 4318 Wabash Ave., and the up-and-coming Feast Buffet at 3101 S. MacArthur Blvd.
